Walker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Hurricane is growing again.
The dealership, which is just off the Hurricane exit of Interstate 64, has purchased some property and buildings next door that it will use to expand into commercial vehicle sales and service as well as provide extra space for inventory.
The property was formerly owned by Burdette Camping Center, said Walker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram General Manager Ryan Walker.
“There’s two buildings and a lot more lot space,” Walker said. “We’ll be able to grow and hold more inventory. We’ll probably get into the commercial (vehicle) game.”
Walker said Burdette Camping moved to Winfield, thus making the property available.
“They’re still in business; they just shut this part down,” he said.
The existing building on the newly acquired land will have two new service bays installed in it. There’s also office space on the property.
“We’ll be able to expand our service capabilities,” he said.
With the added service opportunities, Walker said the dealership will be able to start selling and servicing Ram’s Promaster vans and Ram 5500 and 4500 heavy duty trucks.
“It will expand our outreach of what we’re be able to sell and take care of customers. We’ll have a wider range of customers, and we’ll be able to service trucks for big, commercial businesses.”
The added space also means that Walker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram can have more inventory in stock.
“We’ll be able to add at least 75 cars over there, so that will give everybody a bigger selection of what they’d like to have,” Walker said.
Service Manager Al Begil is excited to offer commercial vehicle service and sales.
“We’ll be able to hire two or three more technicians. There’s a lot of heavy duty work out there, but we’ve not been able to do a whole lot of it,” Begil said.
Walker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram is a full-service dealership with sales, service and parts departments. It also has an extensive inventory of pre-owned cars, trucks and SUVs, including Chrysler-Certified pre-owned vehicles that must meet a set of strict criteria to qualify for certified status.
With more than 50 years of experience, dealership owner Gene Walker is a trusted name in the car business. He purchased the former Courts Motors dealership in Hurricane to fulfill a lifelong dream to own a car dealership.
Walker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram opened in April 2016. Walker followed that by purchasing Turnpike Chevrolet, which is now Walker Chevrolet at the Nitro exit of I-64.
For Walker, he doesn’t sell to customers — he sells to friends. And if the person walking in to buy a car isn’t a friend yet, they will be by the time they leave the building.
“I try to be a friend to everyone I’m selling to,” Walker said.
For most of his customers, he knows their kids’ sports teams and their dog’s name.
For Walker and his family, it’s “making friends one deal at a time.”
Walker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
