damage control

From minor fender-benders to major damage, the certified professionals at the Walker Chevrolet Body and Paint Shop in Nitro know how to restore your vehicle to its showroom glory.

Led by Body Shop Manager Wes Morris, the Walker Chevrolet technicians and painters have the know-how and the specialized equipment to get the job done right.

“We do body and paint. All our techs are I-CAR and ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certified. I-CAR is the industry standard for collision repair, testing and certification,” Morris said. “ASE is for body and mechanical.”

Located just off the Nitro exit of Interstate 64, Walker Chevrolet’s body and paint shop prides itself on having technicians who are highly experienced in the auto body repair industry.

“All of our guys have been in the business for a very long time,” he said.

Morris has 20 years of experience, and body shop technician Keith Davis has 23 years of experience.

The Walker Chevrolet Body Shop can handle any job, no matter how big or how small. Its forte, however, is tackling the big body repair jobs.

“We do a lot of the heavier stuff that smaller shops can’t handle; we do all the big, major collisions,” he said. “We do the heavier hits, where the whole front end is mangled and the whole side is torn out.”

And the Walker Chevrolet Body Shop has the specialized equipment to handle the big jobs. One of those pieces of equipment is the Genesis Velocity Laser Measuring System.

“That’s for pulling or repairing frames.”

The Walker Chevrolet Body Shop technicians work on all makes and models of cars, trucks and SUVs.

“We fix them all,” he said.

The technicians are also certified for aluminum welding and repair.

“A lot of your Fords nowadays — they’re all aluminum now.”

When it comes to auto body painting, the Walker Chevrolet Body Shop has the latest in painting equipment and technology, including two Global downdraft paint booths.

In downdraft technology, “the air comes from the top and pulls down across the vehicle to the bottom, basically keeping all the dust and dirt on the floor,” Morris said.

The Walker Chevrolet Body Shop works with all major insurance companies.

“We’re certified to do their work,” said Walker Chevrolet owner Gene Walker. “You have to be certified with all these insurance companies.”

Although the Walker Chevrolet Body Shop works primarily with insurance companies, individuals are welcome to stop in for an estimate on body work.

“If anybody needs an estimate, they can come in at any time, whether it’s for them or the insurance company,” Morris said.

As an added convenience, the Walker Chevrolet Body Shop can set up rental vehicles for customers to use while their vehicles are in the shop.

“We do a ton of business for insurance companies, but we can do the same for walk-in customers. We take care of everybody, whether it (the job) be big or small,” he said.

Walker Chevrolet is a full-service dealership for new Chevy vehicles, but it also has an extensive inventory of quality, pre-owned vehicles, including GM-certified pre-owned vehicles.

Gene Walker has 50 years of experience in the car business, and, throughout those five decades, he’s made many friends throughout the Kanawha Valley and beyond.

In fact, Walker’s philosophy is “making friends one deal at a time.”
