Walker Chevrolet in Nitro has the newly redesigned 2019 Chevy Silverado truck in stock. Dealership owner Gene Walker, left, and General Manager Frank McClung invite everyone to visit Walker Chevrolet and take a new Silverado for a test drive.

The Chevrolet Silverado has a new look for 2019, and you can see many examples of the popular half-ton truck now at Walker Chevrolet in Nitro.

The full-service Walker Chevrolet dealership, owned by Gene Walker, is conveniently located just off the Nitro exit of Interstate 64.

General Manager Frank McClung is excited for Silverado enthusiasts to see the 2019 edition of one of America’s best-selling trucks.

“It’s all new and redesigned completely,” McClung said.

One of the main improvements in the 2019 Silverado over previous years’ models is increased leg room in the backseat area of the extended cab versions.

“The big, big thing is, they added more leg room in the back, which is one of the things Chevrolet was lacking, to compete with Ford and Dodge (Ram),” he said. “It’s got so much more leg room and head room.”

For 2019, there are also three new engines for the half-ton Silverado. Among them is a new, four-cylinder turbo 2.7 that generates 310 horsepower.

“It can tow up to 7,200 pounds,” he said.

Silverado buyers can choose from among three different transmissions, as well. They include a six-speed, an eight-speed and 10-speed transmission.

Over the years, the Chevy Silverado has become the kind of vehicle that appeals to a broad range of drivers. With its comfortable, car-like ride and excellent gas mileage, the Silverado is a vehicle that anyone can feel at home in.

“Women are driving them now; they’re easy access getting in and out, and you can haul stuff in them. It’s a more versatile vehicle now than it was 10 years ago,” McClung said.

And first-time truck buyers should not be intimidated when they climb behind the wheel.

The Silverado “is easy to drive. They drive like a car now — not like a truck anymore. And the gas mileage isn’t that big of a difference.”

The 2019 Chevy Silverado is available in several different trim levels: Work, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, RST Package, LT Trail Boss, LTZ and the High Country.

The High Country Silverado is the top-of-the-line trim level, combining high-end elegance and features.

Although Silverado trucks are available in two-wheel drive, McClung said most of the trucks Walker Chevrolet sells are four-wheel drive models.

Another change for 2019 allows Silverado drivers to deactivate the “start-stop” feature, which was installed as a way to help increase gas mileage. When coming to a stop at a light, the engine would automatically shut off to conserve gas and then start again when ready to move.

Many drivers found it disconcerting to stop at a light and have their engines stop running, all in the name of gas conservation.

“A lot of people didn’t like the start-stop, so now they’ve got a button in there that will deactivate it,” McClung said.

For hauling things, the Silverado doesn’t need to be babied. The bed in the 2019 Silverado is high-strength steel and the tailgate is aluminum.

“The tailgate is easy (to operate). It’s all push-button, so it’s a remote tailgate.”

Built from high-strength, roll-formed steel to offer the legendary durability you expect from a Chevy pickup truck, Silverado offers the all-new Durabed — the most functional bed of any pickup. Durabed features include:

• Best-in-class cargo box volume so you can haul more with each load

• Available industry-first power-up/-down tailgate electronically lowers and raises the tailgate and can be operated from the key fob, in the cabin or on the gate itself

• Available 120v outlet and LED Rear Task Lighting make work easier wherever you go

• 12 fixed tie downs – rated up to 500 pounds each to help keep your cargo secure

• A CornerStep bumper with larger footwells to make getting into and out of the bed easier in work boots

In addition to stocking a full line of Chevrolet cars, trucks and SUVs, Walker Chevrolet also maintains an excellent selection of pre-owned vehicles.

“We’re getting fresh inventory in every day,” McClung said.

Gene Walker, who also owns Walker Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram in Hurricane, invites everyone down to test drive the 2019 Silverado or any of Chevrolet’s exciting new products.
