Continuing its legacy of giving back to the communities it serves, Ball Toyota of Charleston recently donated more than $35,000 to local nonprofit organizations.

Ball Toyota owners Shawn and David Ball hosted a reception on Dec. 18 at the Patrick Plaza dealership, where Shawn passed out checks to representatives of the nonprofit groups.

As he handed out the checks, Ball congratulated them as winners of Ball Toyota’s online 2019 Charity Giveaway Contest.

Ball Toyota’s Charity Giveaway Contest began with a Nov. 18 posting on the dealership’s Facebook page. The winners were selected per the most nominations by public vote.

“I put out $10,000 for the top 10 charities that get the most votes through Facebook. We had over 100,000 people reached — it blew up in Charleston,” said Ball, who has done similar charity giveaways at his dealerships in Beckley and in Huntington.

In addition to the 10 charities that received $1,000 each, there were 10 charities that received $500 each. Additionally, 40 more nonprofits received $200 each.

Separately, Ball donated a sizeable amount of money earlier to the Secret Santa Foundation, which serves underprivileged children in Boone and Kanawha counties.

The top 10 charities receiving $1,000 each from Ball Toyota are: WV Kids Cancer Crusaders, Fix’Em Clinic, Heart of Phoenix Equine Rescue Inc., The Underprivileged Children Foundation, the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee, Camp Appalachia, Heart & Hand Outreach Ministries, BARC Boone Animal Rescue Coalition, Foster First-Care and Appalachian Children’s Refuge Foundation Inc.

The 10 charities receiving $500 donations each are: Operation Fancy Free Inc., Charleston WV Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern West Virginia, BARN Community Center, Rea of Hope Inc., Elk River Backpack Blessings, WV Health Right Clinic/WVRX, Mission West Virginia Inc., Covenant House and Savannah’s Closet.
