A Crystal Black Pearl Acura TLX sedan, polished to a mirror finish, is turning heads in the Tim Short Acura showroom in South Charleston.
The 2019 TLX is better than ever, delivering the kind of drivability, luxury, power and high technology that Acura drivers have come to expect. Acura is Honda’s luxury line of cars and sport utility vehicles.
“It’s a very sharp car,” said Tim Short Acura Manager James Hatfield.
And more 2019 models are on their way to the dealership at 131 MacCorkle Ave., S.W.
The Acura TLX became part of the Acura lineup in 2015, replacing the Acura TL, Hatfield said.
“For the longest time, the TL was the mainstay of the Acura sedans.”
The TLX combines the best of the venerable TL mid-size sedan and the former TSX models.
“The TSX went away; they eliminated that model and combined it and the TL and made the TLX,” he said.
Since the Acura TLX was introduced in 2015, it’s caught on with driving enthusiasts who appreciate its luxury and keen handling characteristics.
And “you have the option of front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive.”
The Acura TLX is available in the A-Spec package, “which gives you the sporty appearance package,” Hatfield said.
Power options include a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine or a 3.5-liter V6.
“The all-wheel-drive system is only available in the V6 models,” he said.
Although SUVs, such as the Acura RDX and Acura MDX, have exploded in popularity in recent years, there is still a market for sedans. And the TLX is filling that niche.
The TLX “is real popular amongst the younger generation; … it’s cost effective and lease-friendly,” Hatfield said. “Probably over half are leased — everybody budgets for that monthly payment.”
And make no mistake — the Acura TLX is a luxury automobile built on Honda’s reputation for craftsmanship and reliability.
Hatfield said the Acura TLX is in the same class as the Mercedes 300 series, the Audi A4 and the BMW 5 series.
“But it’s more reasonably priced,” he said. “The cost of ownership is a whole lot less than the competition.”
The 2019 Acura TLX performance sedan boasts premium features and intuitive technology to place it among the most advanced and well-equipped midsize luxury cars in its segment.
Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive
Conquer the curves and the weather with available torque-vectoring Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (or SH-AWD). Power gets distributed to the wheels that need it for seamless power transitions and supreme control. It requires the V6 engine.
Precision All-Wheel Steer
The world’s first Precision All-Wheel Steer (or P-AWS) system on a production vehicle changes the game for front-wheel driving, independently adjusting the rear-wheel toe angles for increased agility and stability while cornering, changing lanes or braking.
If you’re looking for a little more power, the available 3.5-liter i-VTEC V6 — paired with the smooth-shifting 9-speed automatic — delivers 267 pounds-feet of tarmac-punishing torque to your TLX driving experience.
Acura’s goal is to help create a zero-collision society, and the AcuraWatch 85 suite of advanced safety and driver-assist technologies keeps the manufacturer in line with that vision. It’s designed to improve awareness, assist with avoidance and help mitigate impact.
With these features and many more, it makes sense to visit Tim Short Acura and test drive the new Acura TLX for 2019.
